ZED fares/tickets are great back-up. When I travel, I usually go to the website for the airport that I'm flying to/from and see what airlines fly there. Then I check ID90 or F9 myIDTravel to see what it might cost me if I use one of those airlines with a ZED fare/ticket. Here's an example: This past summer we flew to Santa Barbara on our Frontier flight. There were plenty of seats going and about twenty seats on the return flight. I checked the Santa Barbara Airport website, and I saw that US Air has five daily flights from SBA to Phoenix. Frontier has five daily flights from Phoenix to Denver. We arrived at SBA to fly to Denver on Frontier on our departure date when we discovered that our plane had hit a bird on arrival, which resulted in the out-going flight being cancelled. We were able to use ZED tickets and fly to Phoenix on US Air for about $29.00. From Phoenix we flew home to Denver on Frontier. Other examples of ZED fares/tickets would be an Alaskan Airlines one-way from Seattle for a little over $40.00. Remember, the ZED is specific for the city pairs that you pick. For example a Seattle-Denver ZED on Alaska can't be used for a Chicago-Denver ZED on United. We get ZED fares on many airlines: Alaska, Southwest, JetBlue, United, US Air, American, and Air France are just a few.
Scouts get a Station Agreement on Jet Blue. To fly JetBlue, go to the Admin office above Quiznos to fill out the paperwork for your free non-rev listing. Your wife and kids can fly on JetBlue, but companions cannot . After turning in the paperwork, wait about a week before going to the JetBlue Ticket counter and get listed. It's good to look up JetBlue flights ahead of time and bring the dates, flight numbers, and city pairs that you plan to fly. Use the JetBlue website for this information. The JetBlue agents are not travel agents, they just want to list you. It's best to do this at the start or at the end of their ticket counter hours. If you want to change the listing afterwards, just call 1-800-jet-blue to make the change, but do this BEFORE your travel date. Also, I turn in Jet Blue paperwork to list myself and my wife about every six weeks. I do this so that if I make a last-second decision to go to Boston or New York, I can go to the JetBlue ticket counter and get listed without waiting a week for paperwork to show up from our Admin office to theirs. It doesn't matter what dates of even destinations you write down on the request, they will honor any change when you show up to list.
Scouts get a Station Agreement with Southwest if you're one of the first 100 F9 employees each month to request one. If you are not one of the first 100, you can buy a ZED fare/ticket.
Scouts also get a Station Agreement with Great Lakes.

When trying to figure out who the best option is to get a ZED fare on I found the Kayak app is great. You can apply filters to have only airlines we have agreements with and organize them by departure time to see who you need to try and when. They have many different filters to help your search but the best thing I found about using this app is they have Southwest flights listed on there! No more going between different websites trying to find your way home.
I used this getting home from Boston and it worked well for me. Let me know if you have questions about this.
